Accessible Bathroom Adaptation
Bathroom adaptations in Hemel Hempstead
These works were for a client with a life-limiting heart condition and who is developmentally delayed. They also have hypermobility and reduced muscle power, particularly in their lower limbs, which was causing difficulty when transferring them in and out of the bath. They were supported by family members to help lift them in and out of the bath, which has been causing a strain to their backs. The goal of the adaptations will help facilitate their independence and reduce the moving and handling strain on their carers.
Before
The existing bathroom layout was not suited to the client's needs, making bathing and transfers difficult. The lack of space and accessibility features meant they relied heavily on family members for assistance, creating both safety concerns and physical strain for caregivers.

After
The newly adapted bathroom provides a safe, accessible, and independent bathing solution. With a level-access shower, slip-resistant flooring, and supportive features like a drop-down shower seat and half-height screens, the space is now designed for ease of use, reducing strain on both the client and their carers.
